About Me
After earning my bachelor’s degree in Accounting, I spent the next 10 years in both public and private accounting, providing accounting, financial, & operational services to small businesses across a multitude of industries. Along the way, I began to notice specific trends in businesses who were doing well, regardless of their industry. Conversely, the businesses who struggled seemed to lack in these areas. It ultimately boils down to two things: Cash Flow Management and Operational Reporting that provides visibility into daily performance of the business. Mismanagement of cash flow is the biggest cause of small business failure, by a long shot. And without trustworthy, on-time reporting that provides analysis critical to strategic decisions, business fail to capitalize on growth opportunities. I view the Financial Operations of a business as all of the activities that underpin these two vital functions. The good news is that these challenges are not as complex as most people think and are surmountable with the right focus and attention dedicated to optimizing the People, Process, and Technology that drive them. I’ll explore each of these in more detail below.
In summary, businesses all too often allow these avoidable challenges to negatively impact their success, and I’m committed to helping you through it.
Cash Flow Management
With Cash flow management, the goal is nothing more than ensuring:
Your bills are paid on time
You are getting paid for the work you do
You keep track of it all in a manner that allows you efficiently manage
Having the right technology and processes in place are the key to unlocking the above objectives. The tricky part is that depending on your industry and stage of growth, the best solutions can be vastly different.
That’s where I come in.
Over the years, I’ve developed a comprehensive knowledge of the relevant software out on the market and best practices specific to your industry and growth stage. I work by piecing together the right tech stack for your Payables and Receivables processes, then develop, implement, and train your team on the workflows that will drive your cash flow management.
Operational Reporting
On the Operational Reporting side, the ultimate challenge is the time-sensitive collection of financial data across multiple systems and from multiple people that then must be reviewed and validated. Without streamlined workflows, processes and policies that hold everyone accountable, and (again) the right software, this can become a nightmare of stale, outdated data. Reviewing your April P&L for the first time in July doesn’t help with the operational challenges you are facing that day.
That’s where I come in.
I start by working with you to define the key metrics and reporting that are really crucial to you understanding where to invest your time and money in growth. From there, we will back into the overall solution, starting with the identification and implementation of the tech stack necessary to generate that reporting. With that said, the highest value I provide in this area lies within my accounting expertise and experience. What I’ve found is that many businesses unnecessarily overcomplicate their accounting methods and processes. Accounting & Finance are subjective by nature, leaving room for confusion and lack of clarity. I provide that clarity and guide your business through all updates to your accounting operations necessary to achieve your reporting goals:
Remove unnecessary complexities
Automate wherever possible
Have the right people working on the right things
Implement accountability systems that prevent delays
Align recurring deliverables with reporting goals
